JOB SUMMARY
: The Director of International Affairs and International Programs at Texas Southern University is responsible for leading, developing, and managing the university's global engagement initiatives. This position provides strategic direction for international partnerships, study abroad programs, international student and scholar services, and global education initiatives to advance the university's mission and strategic priorities. The Director works collaboratively with university leadership, faculty, staff, and external partners to expand the institution's global footprint and enhance cross-cultural learning opportunities. The incumbent will also serve as the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) for Texas Southern University and oversee the operations of the Office of International Affairs (recruitment, admissions, SEVIS Guidelines, Issuance of I-20s, F-1 Visa, etc.).

: The Director of International Affairs and International Programs is a strategic and culturally competent leader with strong global awareness and administrative expertise. This role requires managing complex international relationships, supporting diverse student populations, and promoting global engagement across the university. The position demands excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, as well as a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in a global context. Essential Duties Summary Develops and implements a comprehensive strategy for international affairs and global engagement aligned with the university's mission and strategic goals. Establishes and maintains partnerships with international universities, organizations, and governmental agencies to support academic collaboration and exchange programs. Oversees study abroad and exchange programs, including program development, student recruitment, risk management, and compliance. Oversee services supporting international students and scholars from recruitment through graduation. Ensure institutional compliance with federal regulations, including coordination with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Serves as the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) in the capacity of the primary contact for SEVIS. Supervise Designated School Officials (DSOs) and Responsible Officers (ROs). Promote retention, academic success, and cultural integration of international students. Develop and manage international institutional agreements and memoranda of understanding (MOUs). Provides leadership and oversight for international student and scholar services, ensuring compliance with federal immigration regulations and institutional policies. Promotes global learning opportunities across the curriculum by collaborating with academic departments and faculty. Coordinates international visits, delegations, and cultural exchange initiatives. Develop policies and procedures related to international programs and ensure adherence to institutional and regulatory standards. Advises university leadership on international trends, opportunities, and risks impacting higher education. Leads efforts to increase international student enrollment and retention. Develops and manages the department's budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation. Supervises and mentors' staff to foster a collaborative and effective work environment. Work Experience Required:
A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in international education, global programs, or related areas. Demonstrated experience in managing international programs, partnerships, or student services in a higher education setting or similarly complex organization. Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
Preferred:
Experience working in higher education with a focus on international affairs or global engagement. Knowledge of federal immigration regulations (e.g., SEVIS, F-1/J-1 visa compliance). Experience Managing an Office of International Affairs/International admissions. Experience developing and managing study abroad or exchange programs. Demonstrated success in building international partnerships and collaborations. Strong understanding of global higher education systems and trends. Experience supporting diverse student populations, including international students. Fluency in a second language is highly desirable.
