Job Summary/Basic Function:
Brazosport College seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered academic leader to serve as
Dean of Instruction:
Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Dean leads the College's efforts to enhance the profile, visibility, quality, and effectiveness of Liberal Arts and Sciences programs in support of the College's mission, goals, and objectives. This position provides leadership, management, and support for division chairs, program chairs, instructional support personnel, faculty, curricula, and academic programs. The Dean fosters a high-quality environment for teaching and learning, intellectual achievement, continuous improvement, and innovation while creating and strengthening internal and external partnerships. The Dean shapes, cultivates, and implements a strategic vision for Liberal Arts and Sciences and reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Job duties include but are not limited to: Provides strategic and operational leadership for Liberal Arts and Sciences, including day-to-day operations and budget oversight. Leads the selection, orientation, training, mentoring, support, supervision, and evaluation of faculty and other assigned employees. Provides leadership for the development, coordination, supervision, growth, and continuous improvement of assigned degree, certificate, and credential offerings. Ensures academic programs comply with accreditation requirements, College standards, and other applicable requirements. Oversees assessment of student learning outcomes and continuous improvement of curricula, instructional materials, delivery methods, and academic standards. Leads new program development, program growth, and student recruitment strategies. Oversees development of a student-centered course schedule in collaboration with instructional deans, the Registrar, chairs, and other relevant personnel. Oversees review and evaluation of instructional materials, syllabi, and related academic documents and manages faculty course loads. Addresses and resolves student and personnel matters within the assigned area. Represents the College with community organizations, professional organizations, agencies, and student recruitment activities and ensures broad-based stakeholder input into planning. Works with Planning, Institutional Effectiveness, and Research to strengthen program effectiveness and develops a culture of evidence-based decision-making, including annual program review and advisory committee engagement. Develops strategies to improve student learning and student achievement metrics, including enrollment, retention, and completion. Identifies and implements innovative technologies and software that enhance academic programs and teaching and learning. Assesses faculty and staff professional development needs and communicates those needs to the Center for Instructional Excellence. Ensures the accuracy of College website, catalog, and other media content related to Liberal Arts and Sciences. Participates in College committees and task forces and performs other duties and projects in support of the College's mission, values, and goals.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning in curriculum and instruction, adult education, or a discipline taught within the division. Five (5) years of full-time teaching experience at the college level. Five (5) years of experience as a program chair or demonstrated experience supervising faculty and/or staff. Demonstrated experience or coursework in curriculum design and evaluation. Experience in academic program development. Experience using multiple methods of technology to facilitate education. Experience using retention and/or advising models that promote student success. Strong reading, writing, computer literacy, verbal communication/interpersonal, reasoning, attention-to-detail, and organizational skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience providing academic leadership across multiple Liberal Arts and Sciences disciplines or programs. Experience with outcomes assessment, program review, accreditation, enrollment management, and data-informed continuous improvement. Demonstrated success leading faculty and staff through curricular innovation, technology adoption, and initiatives designed to improve student success. Experience developing productive partnerships with internal stakeholders, community organizations, educational partners, and professional organizations.
