Dean of Business and Technologies Position Area:
Administrative Qualifications Required:
A master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy and student success initiatives. Effective leadership, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills. Knowledge of effective practices in recruiting, selecting, evaluating, mentoring, and supervising faculty and staff. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and the public. Administrative and supervisory experience. Knowledge of strategic planning and budgeting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Effective use of technology. The ability to build consensus around strategic initiatives.

Experience managing productivity requirements. Experience with program review and assessment. Knowledge of change management and AI integration.
Duties:
New River Community College is a two-year state institution of higher education operating under a statewide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body. The people employed by New River Community College promote the philosophy that all individuals should have an opportunity to develop and extend their skills and knowledge to increase awareness of their roles and duties as citizens. The college serves the educational needs of the public and assumes a duty to help provide the requirements for trained workers in the region through a combined effort with local industry, business, professions, and government. The Dean of Business and Technologies provides academic and administrative leadership for the division, including faculty supervision, curriculum and schedule planning, budget management, dual enrollment partnerships, program assessment, and collaboration with workforce and industry partners. The successful candidate will support student success, strengthen instructional quality, and lead programs that prepare students for living-wage employment, transfer, and continued advancement.
Duties:
The Dean of Business and Technologies reports to the Vice President for Instruction and Student Services and leads the Division of Business and Technologies.
Primary responsibilities include:
Mentoring, supervising, and evaluating full-time and adjunct faculty, including screening and recommending new faculty. Leading faculty efforts to increase student retention and completion and to prepare students for living-wage employment. Managing curriculum development and leading faculty in the determination of programs and course offerings. Managing division productivity, budgets, and preparing master course schedules. Managing the dual enrollment program for the division, including fostering and enhancing partnerships with public schools. Providing leadership for assessment and program review activities for the division. Assisting the Workforce Development program in meeting the needs of business and industry. Supporting compliance with college, Virginia Community College System, state, accreditation, and program-specific requirements. Building and sustaining relationships with employers, advisory committees, transfer partners, school divisions, and community stakeholders to ensure programs remain responsive to student, workforce, and regional needs. Promoting the integration of technology into teaching, learning, and student success. Performing other duties as assigned. This is a full-time administrative and professional faculty appointment. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required pre-employment checks and verification of credentials. The position is based at New River Community College in Dublin, Virginia, with responsibilities that may require travel to off-campus instructional sites, partner school divisions, and regional business and industry locations.
Salary:
$82,000 - $105,000, dependent on academic qualifications and previous work experience.
