We are a Title I school, providing services to students in grades pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. We are dedicated to helping students and families in our community by providing a quality education in a safe and caring environment. We provide free breakfast, lunch, and snacks to the students, as well as free full-day preschool and kindergarten. We also have a free after-school program until 5:00. At Southside Community School, the goal of our Social Studies department is to give students meaningful opportunities to use their reading, writing, and research skills to understand history and its impact on current events. A person in this position will need to be: We are looking for someone who has a sincere interest in history and current events and who understands how an understanding of history, politics, and government can shape a student's perspective of the world around them. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with teenagers and is willing to do what it takes to reach even the most resistant students with optimism, consistency, firmness, and patience. Teaching requires the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. An effective teacher is organized, consistent, and able to create structured learning environments where students can succeed. The ideal candidate actively participates in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), shares instructional strategies, and contributes to a positive team culture. We are looking for someone who understands that students learn differently and is committed to differentiating instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all learners while maintaining high expectations. Job duties include, but are not limited to: Design, plan, and implement engaging lessons for grades 6-8 aligned with the Arizona Social Studies Standards. Differentiate instruction, assignments, and assessments to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and learning needs of all students. Actively assess student performance through formal and informal assessments and use data to adjust instruction and provide targeted interventions for struggling students. Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student responsibility and academic success. Utilize effective classroom management and de-escalation strategies to foster positive student behavior, resolve conflicts, and maintain a safe learning environment. Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide initiatives. Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student records on time. Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administration regarding student progress and classroom expectations. Decide whether to promote or retain a student in their grade level in conjunction with the administration and the governing board.

Minimum Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree (All JH instructors must have at least 24 credit hours of coursework related to their subject area and/or have passed the NES test in their subject area). Classroom experience with teenagers preferred. Commitment to collaboration with colleagues and effective teams. Strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, and initiative.
