Job Description

Position Title:
Religious Exploration Teachers-2 positions available, one for K-3rd Grade, one to 4th-8th grade
Position Type:

Non-Exempt Position Purpose:
Lead Sunday class for children of various ages by facilitating plans prepared by the Director of Religious Exploration. Create a safe, welcoming and developmentally appropriate environment, ensuring the well-being of all children while supporting families' full participation in congregational life.

Director of Religious Exploration (DRE)
Hours and Compensation:
This position requires 2 hours of work on Sunday mornings, 9:30 am-11:30 am from September to June (44 weeks), plus potential longer hours on some Sundays. Other times may be requested as arranged with the supervisor, sometimes in consultation with staff, committees, or teams who need childcare to support a congregational event. Compensation is $20/hour.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job. However, these statements are not exhaustive and cannot anticipate all possible duties and requirements that may arise.
Specific Responsibilities:
Lead Sunday classes for children in grades 4th and older by implementing lesson plans prepared by the Director of Religious Exploration. Offer guidance and support to an adult volunteer in the classroom. Each Sunday, the teacher and children will have the support of an adult volunteer from the congregation. Arrive in a timely manner for work and complete timesheets on a weekly basis Be present at the visitor table for 15 minutes prior to beginning of worship to welcome families and orient new visiting families. Communicate effectively ahead of time with supervisors about availability and Sundays off With regard to safety and discipline Use positive language to direct or redirect children Refrain from physical discipline or punishment Maintain a space that is physically and emotionally safe for all children and caregivers Leaves space tidy and clean at the end of the day Maintains good hand hygiene after assisting children with tissues for coughs, sneezes, or runny noses Keep class attendance Ensure children's classes abide by our Child safety policy at all times, maintain supervision. Facilitate outside play, fire drills, and an occasional neighborhood field trip. Communicates needs for supplies with DRE. If there are no children in the group present on a Sunday, the leader will assist in one of the other RE rooms.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
Prior experience caring for and leading activities with children and a love of young people Familiarity and comfort with Unitarian Universalism or other liberal faith traditions is recommended.
Skills:
Comfort facilitating a variety of activities with a small group of children. Brings a love of children and enthusiasm for the time together Understanding of age-appropriate activities Reliable Ability to work effectively with volunteers Ability to follow child-safety rules

Pay:
