Full Job Description Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly effective High School World History and AP Human Geography Teacher for a 10-month academic term. This position requires alignment with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction standards, including the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for World History and the Advanced Placement framework for Human Geography. The ideal candidate will cultivate historical thinking, geographic literacy, and advanced analytical skills while preparing students for success on the AP exam.Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Alignment Deliver standards-aligned instruction based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for World History Implement the AP Human Geography Course and Exam Description (CED), including all required units and topics Integrate historical thinking skills (chronological reasoning, sourcing, contextualization) and geographic reasoning (spatial patterns, human-environment interaction) Use primary and secondary sources, maps, data sets, and case studies to deepen student understanding AP Performance & Assessment Prepare students for the AP Human Geography exam using College Board-aligned instructional strategies Develop assessments aligned to AP formats, including multiple-choice questions, free-response questions (FRQs), and data-based analysis Set clear performance benchmarks such as: Increasing the percentage of students scoring 3 or higher on the AP exam Monitoring student progress using AP Classroom data and formative assessments Providing targeted intervention for students below proficiency Conduct AP-style practice exams and review sessions Student Engagement & Differentiation Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including advanced learners and students needing additional support Incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices and global perspectives Use technology and current global events to enhance relevance and engagement Classroom Environment & Collaboration Maintain a structured, inclusive, and academically rigorous classroom environment Collaborate with social studies colleagues on vertical alignment and curriculum planning Communicate regularly with students, families, and school staff regarding progress and expectations Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development aligned with state standards and AP training (e.g., AP Summer Institutes) Attend faculty meetings, PLCs, and school events Maintain accurate records of student performance and instructional plansQualifications:
Bachelor's degree in History, Geography, Social Studies Education, or related field (Master's preferred) Valid North Carolina teaching license in Social Studies (9-12) Experience teaching World History and/or AP Human Geography preferred Familiarity with College Board AP course frameworks and assessment practices Strong content knowledge in global history and human geography Demonstrated ability to analyze student performance data and adjust instructionAP Performance Expectations & Benchmarks:
Target 60-70% or higher of AP students scoring 3+ on the AP Human Geography exam (adjustable based on school context) Evidence of student growth through pre/post assessments and AP-aligned tasks ?????? use of AP Classroom analytics to inform instruction Implementation of at least 2 full-length AP practice exams annually Student proficiency in FRQ writing, with rubric-aligned scoring practicesWork Schedule:
