Aug 24, 2026 Job Description La Salle Academy is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school, rooted in the traditions of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the De La Salle Christian Brothers) offering a comprehensive curriculum. Founded in 1871 and located in the heart of Providence, La Salle Academy serves a student body of 1560 students in grades 6 through 12. La Salle Academy has as its mission the education of young men and women of diverse backgrounds, with a special concern for the working class and the poor, in the tradition of St. John Baptist De La Salle's ideals of faith, service, and community. La Salle Academy is seeking a dynamic and well-rounded educator to join our Social Studies department. The primary responsibility for the position is teaching Social Studies, with opportunities to instruct required courses (Civics, World History, United States History), elective courses, or other Social Studies-related subjects based on expertise and student interest. Additionally, the ability and interest in teaching Advanced Placement and/or Concurrent/Dual Enrollment courses is preferred. We are looking for passionate educators who can engage students in inquiry-based learning, foster curiosity, develop critical thinking and writing skills, and contribute to a collaborative academic environment. Educators from any social studies background are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
Teach Social Studies to high school students following state and national standards. Have the ability to teach at all levels, from College Prep to the Advanced Placement level, including concurrent and dual-enrollment courses. Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate critical thinking, writing skills, and real-world applications. Utilize technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student learning. Assess and support student progress through differentiated instruction. Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum and contribute to the Social Studies department. Participate in school activities, professional development, and extracurricular programs as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in History, Education, or a related field. Masters degree in History, Education, or a related field, is preferred Strong background in History or general Social Studies. Teaching experience in Advanced Placement courses preferred. Experience in inquiry-based social studies instruction preferred. Effective classroom management and communication skills. Passion for fostering student engagement and critical thinking.
