Job Description

History & Social Studies Teacher (2026-2027 School Year) Massanutten Academy is seeking an energetic, dedicated, and student-focused educator to join our faculty for the 2026-2027 academic year . Located in the beautiful foothills of the Massanutten Mountains in Woodstock, Virginia , Massanutten Academy is a college preparatory boarding and day school committed to developing academic excellence, leadership, character, and personal responsibility in a structured learning environment. Position Summary The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of middle and upper school history and social studies courses while fostering academic achievement, leadership, and student engagement. Teaching Responsibilities
  • Middle School Civics
  • U.S. Government (Standard and AP)
  • Dual Enrollment History
  • U.S. History (Standard and AP) Qualifications
  • Master's degree required in History, Political Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Virginia teaching license (or eligibility for licensure) preferred.
  • Experience teaching Advanced Placement (AP) and/or Dual Enrollment courses is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Passion for working with high school and middle school students in a structured educational environment. Essential Duties
  • Deliver engaging, rigorous, and student-centered instruction.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date electronic gradebook.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administration.
  • Mentor cadets through weekly advisory meetings.
  • Foster a structured, disciplined, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the Academy's academic mission.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, school activities, and occasional weekend responsibilities.
  • Adhere to all Academy policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Successfully complete a criminal background check prior to employment.
