PART-TIME Position title: Adjunct Lecturer, Temporary Position description The Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University ( www.finearts.howard.edu ) invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Lecturer, temporary faculty position in the nationally renowned Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Theatre Arts program for the 2026-2027 academic year (August 2026 through May 2027), with the possibility of reappointment. We seek a dynamic and collaborative theatre generalist with the ability to teach foundational undergraduate theatre courses while supporting the department's commitment to excellence in teaching, mentorship, and creative practice. The successful candidate will demonstrate broad knowledge of theatre history, performance, analysis, and dramatic literature, with the flexibility to also teach in the acting area. The vision for the Department of Theatre Arts is to become a hub for the Black dramatic arts intelligence, a haven for its legacy and a pre-eminent training ground for its aesthetic and cultural activism. As a historically Black, private university committed to educating leaders capable of driving change and solving world problems, the Department of Theatre Arts is dedicated to the continued growth and development of the African Diasporic experience through the study and practice of the theatre arts. Employing research, experimentation, production, performance and the education of emerging professionals, we nurture holistic, multi-hyphenate, collaborative, interdisciplinary dramatic arts creatives prepared to pioneer and lead aesthetic/cultural activism on the national and global stage.

Primary Teaching Responsibilities May Include:

Introduction to Theatre Play Analysis Dramaturgy Play Reading and Dramatic Literature Beginning and Intermediate Acting Additional foundational or survey courses based on departmental needs and candidate expertise

Responsibilities:

Teach assigned undergraduate courses in accordance with departmental learning outcomes Develop and maintain course syllabi, assignments, and assessments Foster an inclusive, engaging, and student-centered classroom environment Hold office hours and provide timely communication and feedback to students Participate in departmental meetings and activities as appropriate Submit grades and other required documentation in a timely manner

Preferred Qualifications:

Terminal degree (MFA, DMA, or PhD) in a relevant discipline Experience in teaching theatre arts and collaborating with theatre/dance departments. Evidence of inclusive teaching practices and commitment to student success Experience with participating in department meetings, committee work, and departmental service.

Duties:

The successful applicant will teach up to 8 credit hours per semester load with an initial contract of 1-year. Responsibilities will include teaching courses at the undergraduate level in the department's program curricula; mentoring undergraduate students; participating in departmental activities, and college and university administrative service.

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure Expected Pay Range:

$1,900 per credit rate minimum (per course determination); the current salary range is commensurate with market value and candidate's experience. TEMPORARY

Requires the candidate to serve a 1-year or 1-semester term. The lecturer will instruct up to 8 credits/semester), advising students at the collegiate level. There is no Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) requirement.
