Job Description

Job Description The Art History Program in the School of Art & Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Early Modern European Art History (1300-1700) to a one-year, non-tenure-track faculty appointment (up to 100% time for up to 9 months). The proposed start date is August 16, 2026. Context The Art History Program consists of eight full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty members, plus affiliated faculty. Degrees offered include the B.A. and B.F.A, as well as the M.A. and Ph.D. Art History graduate courses also support graduate minors in Museum Studies and Medieval Studies. The University Library is the largest among publicly supported educational institutions and one of the largest university libraries in the country. There are two university museums, the Krannert Art Museum and the Spurlock Museum. University of Illinois As a part of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Illinois, the School of Art & Design offers ready opportunity for collaborations with Krannert Art Museum and Krannert Center for Performing Arts, and with active departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Dance, Theater, and Music. For more information, please : for the University, for the College, and for the School. Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The predetermined salary range for this position is $60,000 - $63,000 annual. This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee. Preferred and Required Qualifications Qualifications We seek a specialist in Early Modern art to teach courses on European art between 1300 and 1700. The successful candidate will teach 3 courses/semester and have the capacity to work with studio-art and design students, art-history majors, and art-history graduate students. We seek candidates who are enthusiastic about participating in the life of an art school situated within a vibrant R1 research university.
Required qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Art History or a related field by the start of the appointment is required.
Preferred qualifications:
Applications from scholars working on connections between Europe and other parts of the world are especially welcome, and we will prioritize candidates whose research and teaching allows us to broaden the program's methodological approaches. Demonstrated ability to teach across multiple populations in a university environment is preferred.
