Job Description:
The Bunker Hill Community College Performing Arts Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct Instructor of Theatre to teach 2 theatre courses: Tues/Thurs 2:30 pm-3:45 pm section of THR 201: Theatre History I (3 credits) Tues/Thurs 4:00 pm-5:15 pm section of THR 115: Playwriting (3 credits) The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping students build foundational knowledge of theater texts and theory through classroom instruction and experiential learning.
Course Descriptions:
THR 201: Theatre History I (3 credits): This course provides an overview of theatre from its ancient origins to 1650. Focusing on key theatrical movements, playwrights, and productions, students will critically engage with the artistic innovations that have defined the theater landscape across different periods and regions. The reading of historically representative plays will prompt discussions of such topics as aesthetic developments, various acting approaches, and the evolving demographics of audiences. Students will explore how theatre has served as a reflection of and catalyst for social change throughout history.
Prerequisites:
Introduction to Theatre (THR 101) and College Writing I (ENG 111) THR 115: Playwriting (3 credits): This course introduces students to the art and technique of writing for the stage. Students explore the fundamentals of crafting compelling narratives, developing authentic characters, and constructing dynamic dialogue. Through script analysis of works from several playwrights and genres, students cultivate an understanding of the historical development of playwriting. Students hone their storytelling skills and cultivate their unique voices as playwrights in class workshops, discussions, and practical exercises.

College Writing I (ENG 111)
Primary Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging and comprehensive instruction in Theatre History and Playwriting, integrating historical context, critical analysis, and creative practice. Align instruction and assessment with departmental and program-level student learning outcomes. Coordinate with other theatre course sections in sharing student work at the Theatre Major Showcase at the end of each semester.
Requirements:
PhD in Performance Studies or MFA in Playwriting. Strong organizational and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in a diverse and collaborative academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Active professional practice as a playwright or dramaturg. College-level teaching experience, especially at a community college. Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish or another language.

Salary:
$1,397 per credit hour.
