Posting Details Position Information Job Title Tenure-Track Position in Spanish - Fall 2027 Classification Title Rank Faculty Tenure Information Tenure Track Job Description Sarah Lawrence invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Spanish with a focus on the Iberian Peninsula to begin in Fall 2027. Candidates should be prepared to teach all levels of language and culture courses, from Beginning to Advanced, and to occasionally teach courses in English in their area of interest. While the area of specialization is open, we especially encourage applications that establish broad connections between the Iberian Peninsula and the Global Hispanophone, particularly in Equatorial Guinea and/or the Philippines, and that engage varied literary, media, and cultural forms. We are interested in candidates who have creative and expansive visions about teaching and research and who incorporate multidisciplinary and comparative approaches in both their teaching and their scholarly work. Sarah Lawrence is a small liberal arts college with a dynamic and holistic curriculum, designed to foster students' capacity to develop a program of study unique to them. We therefore welcome candidates who are intellectually versatile and well rounded, interested in designing and teaching a wide range of courses, including those outside of their area of expertise, and willing to advise students of diverse interests, backgrounds, and trajectories. The position is teaching-intensive, involving two courses per semester. The application should include the following: cover letter, curriculum vitae, descriptions for one Intermediate and one Advanced course in Spanish that you could see yourself teaching at Sarah Lawrence, a sample syllabus for a literature and/or culture studies course in translation, a brief writing sample of approximately 20-25 pages, a statement of teaching philosophy and teaching evaluations, if available, and three references who will be contacted for letters of recommendation upon submission of application. Compensation listed for this position is for a full-time tenure-track faculty position and will be contingent on teaching experience. Required Qualifications Applicants should have received their PhD by Fall 2027. Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English is essential, as is a commitment to excellence in teaching.
