Job Description

Buena Vista University is seeking candidates for a part-time position combining online teaching with content oversight as an online course lead for Criminology and Criminal Justice. Responsibilities include online teaching, course design, development and updates, adjunct faculty oversight, and projects as part of a collaborative, multi-unit online program. The role averages approximately 20 hours of work per week with occasional intermittent increases not to exceed 30 hours per week. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to program development, revision, and evaluation of online courses 15 credit online teaching load throughout academic year Serve as course lead for assigned courses Monitor and maintain course curriculum, assessment, and content to ensure regular review of quality and updated content consistent with BVU's academic standards. In collaboration with disciplinary faculty, develop and maintain course content in a robust LMS environment including course syllabus, course outcomes alignment management of immediate course issues and conducting cyclic course reviews to prepare annual updates in the master course maintaining the course map and all course content outside of the LMS to ensure continuity of delivery if the LMS is damaged or unavailable reviewing pedagogy to ensure appropriate student learning and success in the course. Orient, support, and monitor faculty who teach the course each term. Conduct cyclic adjunct performance reviews, as assigned Communicate with school leadership, colleagues, Office of Digital Learning, and support staff on course needs. Contribute to and participate in meetings and communications, as appropriate and as requested. Participating in appropriate professional development Hold weekly office hours Communicate and collaborate with FT, PT, and adjunct faculty, Storm Lake departmental colleagues, and other BVU faculty and staff as appropriate - this may occasionally include some travel Participate in program evaluation and review Mentor students as they develop their professional identities Communicate in a timely manner with partners internal and external to the university
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong collaboration and communication skills Proficiency with Canvas tools and online learning technologies Working understanding of instructional technology and technology to facilitate efficient collaboration and workflow Ability to serve as both the subject matter expert and basic instructional designer for online courses Working understanding of backwards design curriculum development or interest to learn Ability to design structured, outcomes-aligned course content Strong teaching pedagogy including the use of assessment data Disciplinary knowledge and curiosity
Qualifications:
Masters degree in related field required. Experience designing, building and maintaining fully online courses in Canvas LMS Teaching experience in online higher education setting Experience mentoring, supporting, and coordinating instructors preferred Preference for course design accessibility training Preference for QM training This position is not eligible for an employer-sponsored visa, and all applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
