Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with legal and business partners. In Fall 2026, Legal Prep will open its first Indianapolis campus, launching with 6th and 9th grades and growing into a full 6-12 school. Our founding faculty will play a critical role in shaping the culture, systems, and academic excellence of the school from day one. Position Overview Legal Prep is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven 9th Grade Law Teacher to join our founding team. This is one of the signature positions within the Legal Prep model and an opportunity unlike any other in education. The 9th Grade Law Teacher will teach Street Law, introducing students to the American legal system and the many different career paths within the legal profession. Students will explore topics such as criminal law, civil law, constitutional rights, contracts, consumer law, and the court system while developing the skills that all great lawyers possess: critical thinking, persuasive writing, public speaking, advocacy, and problem solving. The Law Teacher will also help students understand the many roles attorneys play in society by introducing them to careers such as prosecutors, public defenders, corporate attorneys, family law attorneys, intellectual property attorneys, civil rights lawyers, judges, and public interest advocates. Through Legal Prep's partnerships with law firms, corporate legal departments, courts, and legal organizations, the Law Teacher will help connect classroom learning with authentic professional experiences. Core Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Teach 9th Grade Street Law and introductory legal studies. Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the Legal Prep law curriculum. Facilitate mock trials, debates, negotiations, simulations, and case studies. Develop students' written and oral advocacy skills. Incorporate current legal issues and civic topics into classroom discussions. Assess student learning and provide timely feedback. Experiential Learning Partner with Legal Prep's legal and business partners to support monthly legal programming. Prepare students for visits to law firms, courts, and other legal organizations. Coordinate guest speakers and legal professionals as appropriate. Help students connect classroom concepts to real-world legal careers. Culture & Founding Responsibilities Uphold Legal Prep's culture of high expectations and restorative practices. Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and collaborative planning. Support student recruitment, family engagement, and school events. Contribute to building a positive and engaging founding school culture. Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and a licensed attorney Strong written and verbal communication skills. Passion for working with young people and inspiring the next generation of lawyers and leaders. Commitment to serving students from historically underserved communities. Ability to translate complex legal concepts into engaging, age-appropriate instruction. Spanish language proficiency is a plus. Preferred Qualifications Experience practicing law in any area of legal practice. Teaching, coaching, mentoring, or youth development experience.
