Director of Learning and Library Services Shorter College - 3.8 North Little Rock, AR Job Details Full-time 21 hours ago Qualifications Academic institution experience Supervising experience Cross-functional communication Full Job Description Director of Learning and Library Services Shorter College - North Little Rock, Arkansas Full-Time, Exempt Position Overview Shorter College seeks a dynamic, student‑centered leader to serve as the Director of Learning and Library Services . This position oversees all library operations, academic support services, and learning resources that promote student success and faculty effectiveness. The Director provides strategic vision, operational leadership, and collaborative guidance to ensure that the College's learning environment remains innovative, accessible, and aligned with institutional goals and accreditation standards. Key Responsibilities Library Leadership & Operations Provide administrative oversight for all library functions, including circulation, reference services, acquisitions, cataloging, and digital resources. Develop and implement policies that ensure high-quality, student‑focused library services. Manage the library's physical and digital collections to support academic programs and accreditation requirements. Oversee library technology, databases, and learning platforms to ensure reliable access and usability. Academic Support & Learning Services Lead the development and delivery of tutoring, academic coaching, and learning support initiatives. Supervise the Learning Center, ensuring students receive effective support in writing, math, study skills, and course-specific needs. Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy and research skills into the curriculum. Coordinate workshops, orientations, and instructional sessions that enhance student learning and academic readiness. Strategic Planning & Compliance Develop and execute a strategic plan for library and learning services aligned with institutional priorities. Ensure compliance with
TRACS, U.S.
Department of Education, and other regulatory bodies related to library resources and academic support. Prepare reports, assessments, and documentation for accreditation, program review, and institutional effectiveness. Management & Collaboration Supervise library and learning services staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation. Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships. Serve as a campus-wide partner to faculty, academic leadership, and student services to strengthen teaching, learning, and retention initiatives. Represent the College in professional organizations, consortia, and community partnerships. Qualifications Required Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or a master's degree in education, instructional support, or a related field with significant experience in academic learning services. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in academic libraries, learning centers, or student academic support. Demonstrated leadership, supervisory experience, and strong organizational skills. Knowledge of library systems, digital resources, and academic support best practices. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving abilities. Preferred Experience working in a two-year college or minority-serving institution. Familiarity with TRACS accreditation standards. Experience developing academic support programs for first-generation, adult, or underprepared learners. Proficiency with integrated library systems, learning management systems (Canvas), and student success technologies. Work Environment & Expectations Full-time, on-campus leadership role. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for events, orientations, or academic support programming.
