Job Description
Please Note:
This is an at-will class under the direction of and serves at the pleasure of the County Librarian. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Consults with and assists the County Librarian in the planning, coordination, and administration of the community library services. Interprets, plans, organizes, and executes Department functions through subordinate supervisors. Represents the County Librarian at community meetings, workshops, and statewide gatherings. Interviews, selects, trains, evaluates, and disciplines subordinate staff when necessary. Participates in the development of long-range plans and annual budget estimates. Prepares or supervises preparation of special studies, reports, and correspondence. Maintains a current awareness of the community and the profession, including attending staff conferences and meetings of professional organizations. Makes presentations to staff, the public, organizations, agencies, and governmental entities.Education :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Library Science that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.Experience :
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional library experience, at least two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory or management capacity.License :
Possess a valid California Driver License at the time of appointment and maintain, for some positions in this classification.Supplemental:
A background check may be conducted for this classification. Participates in the Library's strategic planning, including preparation and administration of the budget. May act on behalf of the County Librarian in his or her absence. Manages, directs, and evaluates personnel, resources and communications. Effectively collaborate with library staff, other County staff, and outside agencies in the development and implementation of library programs, projects, and activities. Conducts meetings, workshops, and special events as assigned. Participate on various committees as required. Directs the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical records and reports. Operate a personal computer and other office equipment, including repetitive hand and arm motion. Communicate effectively with others in person and over the telephone. Analyze data, interpret policies, procedures, regulations and develop appropriate conclusions. Meet deadlines under stressful conditions; complete multiple priority projects with conflicting deadlines. Establish, implement and achieve goals and objectives; Implement improvement plans. Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or County regulations. Resolve conflicts and respond appropriately to complaints. Frequent use of depth perception, peripheral vision and color perception. Frequently lift, carry, reach, push, pull, twist and manipulate large and small objects. Frequent use of hand-eye coordination; normal dexterity, frequent holding and grasping. Occasionally lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Regular attendance is an essential function.KNOWLEDGE OF

Develop subordinates and future library leaders. Interpret library policy and speak before community groups. Resolve and/or answer difficult policy or procedural questions. Analyze budgetary and staffing requirements and make recommendations.
