POSITION SUMMARY
The Library/Media Specialist at Danbury High School is a dynamic educator who collaborates with staff and students to promote digital literacy, research skills, and a love of reading across a large and diverse student population. The ideal candidate will foster a flexible, inclusive learning environment that supports academic excellence and innovation through the use of library/media resources and instructional technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide access to and maintain a robust collection of print, digital, and multimedia resources aligned with the high school curriculum Instruct students in research, digital citizenship, media literacy, and effective use of information technologies Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-design and deliver integrated lessons that enhance student learning through media and technology Support curriculum development by providing instructional materials and resource guidance Promote a reading culture and support student choice through library programs and events Manage daily operations of the DHS library, including circulation, cataloging, inventory, and budgeting Curate and manage digital tools and databases, and support their use among staff and students Provide training and ongoing support to teachers on integrating instructional technology Maintain an engaging, organized, and safe library environment that meets the academic and social-emotional needs of students Monitor trends in instructional technology and educational resources to enhance library services Encourage ethical and responsible use of information and technology Participate in school-wide initiatives and professional development aligned with district goals
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Strong knowledge of library/media center management and digital resource curation Proficiency with educational technology tools, platforms, and databases Understanding of adolescent literacy development and secondary research skills Ability to work collaboratively with high school faculty across content areas Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage a large, diverse student population in a high-volume learning environment Experience supporting project-based learning and interdisciplinary instruction Commitment to culturally responsive practices and equitable access to information
QUALIFICATIONS
Active 062 Library Media Specialist Certification from the Connecticut State Department of Education Master's Degree in Library Science or related field preferred Experience working in a high school library/media setting strongly preferred Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in support of teaching and learning Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Danbury Board of Education may find appropriate
Salary:
Salary and wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education which can be found on our website.
