Jul 27, 2026 Job Description The job of Media Specialist is done for the purpose/s of ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; maintaining library collection at school site by implementing age appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instruction; and instructing students in ways that stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas. Conducts classes in a variety of formats for the purpose of promoting the use and enjoyment of literature. Coordinates media equipment requests of individuals for the purpose of ensuring availability of audio visual / media equipment for instructional use. Distributes various books, periodicals and other related media for the purpose of providing requested information (print and non-print) for student and/or classroom use. Instructs students for the purpose of educating them on the proper use of the library resources and providing opportunities for to learn to utilize and enjoy library materials in all formats. Maintains library in a neat and orderly fashion for the purpose of ensuring the effective and efficient organization of the library / media center and related resources. Monitors students in library for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students and to help them learn to understand and enjoy using information and ideas in a variety of formats. Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Performs minor repairs to media (print and non-print) and related equipment as needed for the purpose of ensuring the availability of books, periodicals, audio/visual equipment, etc. in a timely and efficient manner. Plans collaboratively with teachers to integrate literature, resources and information literacy skills into the curriculum for the purpose of designing learning strategies that stimulate interest in use of information and ideas. Promotes library use related to a wide variety of events (e.g. curriculum integration, holidays, seasonal activities, etc.) for the purpose of motivating students to feel comfortable with and use library / media center resources. Provides leadership in collaborative planning for school library / media center resources for the purpose of ensuring that library / media center resources meets the need of students and staff and that they follow District curriculum guidelines. Provides supervision for assigned library / media center staff (e.g. clerical, paraprofessional, volunteer and/or technical, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that staffing requirements are met and that assigned staff are effectively trained. Selects and orders resources consistent with District policies and with school curriculum needs (e.g. books, periodicals, films, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining and constantly improving library collection. Incorporate STEM activities into the media center. The successful candidate must be able to fulfill his or her role in helping to create and maintain a learning organization for students and staff.
Qualifications:
Appropriate certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. The Gordon County School District reserves the right to accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Salary:
State base pay plus local supplement based on years of experience and degree.
