Job Description

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Library Media Specialist to join our team at Dixon Elementary School. This full-time position is essential for fostering a love of reading and learning among students while promoting information literacy and digital citizenship. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, a strong understanding of library services, and the ability to collaborate with teachers and staff to enhance the learning environment. Responsibilities Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging library program that supports the curriculum and encourages a love for reading. Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources and technology into classroom instruction. Curate and maintain a diverse collection of books, digital resources, and educational materials that reflect the interests and needs of students. Provide instruction on research skills, information literacy, and the effective use of technology. Organize and conduct library events, such as book fairs, reading challenges, and author visits to promote literacy and community engagement. Assist students in locating and selecting appropriate materials for their academic and recreational needs. Manage the library's circulation system, including checking in and out materials, cataloging new acquisitions, and maintaining inventory. Stay current with trends in library services, technology, and educational practices to continually enhance the library program. Provide professional development and support to staff on the use of library resources and technology. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages all students to explore and utilize library resources. Requirements Valid state teaching certification with a library media specialist endorsement preferred.-195 days Experience working in a school library or educational setting is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of children's literature, educational technology, and information literacy standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and the community. Proficiency in using library management systems, digital resources, and technology tools. Ability to create engaging and informative programming for students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing library operations. Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
