Schedule:

9:00 AM - 6:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM (varying days, including weekends and evenings as needed) Position Overview The Library Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for library patrons, staff, and visitors. This role involves monitoring facility activity, enforcing library policies, and responding to security concerns with professionalism and discretion. Key Responsibilities Monitor library premises to ensure the safety of patrons, staff, and property Enforce library rules, policies, and code of conduct in a respectful and professional manner Conduct routine patrols of the building and surrounding property Respond appropriately to disturbances, emergencies, or suspicious activity Provide customer-friendly assistance and directions to patrons when needed Observe and report incidents, completing detailed reports as required Coordinate with local law enforcement or emergency services when necessary Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned Maintain a visible presence to deter disruptive or unsafe behavior Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous security, law enforcement, or customer service experience is a plus Strong observational and communication skills Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Basic report writing and incident documentation skills Work Environment Public library setting with frequent interaction with patrons of all ages Indoor work with occasional outdoor patrols May involve handling challenging or sensitive situations
