Job Description

The Library Director is a part-time, chief administrator responsible for overseeing all aspects of the daily operations of Dorcas Library, a non-municipal library in Prospect Harbor, Maine. Key responsibilities include supervising a volunteer staff, program planning including ongoing programs and summer author talks, collection development, seeking out grant opportunities and applying for them, working with the Board on the annual fundraising mass mailing (Annual Appeal), tracking expenditures and daily statistics of library use, and community outreach (including social media posts, website, monthly news for town newsletter, and an annual report for the town). Working under the guidance of the Board of Trustees, the library director carries out its directives and keeps it informed of the daily workings of the library. The library director also recruits and trains the volunteer staff to ensure the library is a welcoming place for both permanent residents and seasonal guests. Library director experience preferred but not required. If no library background, basic certification in the Maine State Library online program will be a requisite. This may be completed on the job. The position requires use of computers, including Excel, Word, Canva, and Wordpress. Writing skills are essential. Bending, reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds is also helpful.
Regular Schedule:
