Job Description

The Michigan Department of Corrections is proud to be a Michigan Veteran's Affairs Agency (MVAA) Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer. At the advanced level, this position serves as the recognized resource and subject matter expert for all library and law library operations at the Newberry and Alger Correctional Facilities. It oversees daily library functions, ensures secure and compliant access to library and legal resources for inmates, and supervises all prisoner Library Clerks and Legal Writers. The role manages the Legal Writer Program, the Electronic Law Library, and all coordination with outside service providers. Additionally, it is responsible for procurement, reporting, recordkeeping, inventories, and other assigned duties. At the entry through experienced levels, this position coordinates the law and general library services for the Newberry Correctional Facility and Alger Correctional Facility. Ensure that prisoners are provided access to the courts as required by applicable policies, procedures, administrative rules, state and federal laws and court (judicial) requirements. Education Possession of a master's degree in library science. Experience Librarian 9 No specific type or amount is required. Librarian 10 One year of professional experience providing librarian services equivalent to a Librarian 9. Librarian P11 Two years of professional experience providing librarian services equivalent to a Librarian, including one year equivalent to a Librarian 10. Librarian 12 Three years of professional experience providing librarian services equivalent to a Librarian, including one year equivalent to a Librarian P11. Note:
you do not need to fill out the form) The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017 . Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing. This position is eligible for a $0.40/hour pay premium.
