Job Description

Under the direction of the Branch Manager, the On-call Associate Librarian provides information and research services to library users and instruction on the effective use of library facilities, resources and equipment. Assist in professional library projects and activities which may include children's programming, collection management, and cataloging. This is an on-call non-exempt position. There is neither a guarantee of continual hours or guarantee of future employment, nor County benefits, except as mandated by state and federal law or as specifically referenced in the Personnel Policy Manual. Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:
  • Conduct formalized library user interview to assess needs/request for information and research service.
  • Conduct catalog and Internet search to locate information and resources for library user needs and requests.
  • Provide instruction to library users on the effective use of library facilities, resources and equipment.
  • Assist with children's services activities such as story times and Internet instruction.
  • Assist with projects to improve library service to the public.
  • Prepare bibliographies for library users in a variety of subject areas.
  • Assist staff and users with technology support including basic operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Conduct tours, school visits, group presentations to encourage community use of the library.
  • Create merchandising displays featuring library material.
  • Copy catalog print and non-print materials.
  • Perform a variety of circulation and support activities as necessary.
  • Prepare inter-library loan requests.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assignedAssociates Degree and one year library or related working experience.

Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, and background investigation.
