Job Description
The East Greenwich School Department is seeking a 1 Year Only Library Media Specialist to work at Eldredge Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year.
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Library Media Specialist will support the school's mission, goals, and vision; value community; bring a spirit of enthusiasm and energy, and be willing to take thoughtful initiative in a collaborative setting. The Librarian should be independent, creative, and able to design and deliver library programs that inspire curiosity, inquiry and a life-long love of reading. The Librarian will design and implement assessments that measure progress toward information literacy standards and will use assessment data to modify instructional practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and deliver lessons that support academic curriculum, digital citizenship, and information and media literacies;
Design and teach developmentally appropriate, integrated research skills;
Collaborate and co-teach with classroom educators to establish learning objectives and assessment strategies to develop individual and group inquiry-based learning experiences;
Work with Department leadership to align teaching strategies and print and electronic resources with the curriculum;
Foster exploration, discovery, creation, and innovation in a growth mindset;
Understand the needs of and enjoy working with children of all ages;
Create and implement a teaching and learning environment that empowers all members of the learning community to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, curators and ethical users of information;
Maintain a library collection that represents a diverse and multicultural range of authors and topics using professional guidelines and data to drive purchasing decisions;
Champion equity, access, and intellectual freedom for all users within the physical space and beyond, including providing 24/7 access to the online library catalog; digital and audio books; and various information resources;
Empower and teach students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and skillful researchers;
Meet regularly with library departments across the district;
Develop and maintain the School Library curriculum, in accordance with National and State School Library standards. Oversee the maintenance of the School Library's collection (print and online), including circulation, collection development, inventory, and evaluation;
Participate as an active leader of the local and global learning community, building relationships with organizations and stakeholders;
Support the district and school mission, strategic plan, and policies;
Model and champion digital citizenship and safety, and adherence to copyright and fair use requirements;
Support and participate in a professional learning community;
Create a joyful, vibrant, and welcoming environment;
Administer all human, financial, physical, and virtual resources of the library program;
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
Education and Experience
RIDE Certification
REQUIRED
All Grades Library Media Teacher, Grades PK-12;
Experience in advancing the use of technology with students across multiple grade levels;
Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required
Tools & Equipment Used
The individual should be familiar with the operation of standard office equipment, Google Workspace, including G Suite for Education.
