Job Description

Minimum starting salary: $23.5281 hourly, depending on qualifications. Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends, including Sunday afternoons. The City of Waco Seeks A passionate individual dedicated to delivering exceptional library services to our community and eager to embrace new challenges. The ideal candidate is flexible, friendly, self-motivated, and committed to contributing to the library's continued success and growth.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's Degree 2 years of library experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:
An MLS from an ALA-accredited program Position Overview Under general supervision, performs professional-level librarian duties, utilizing current technology and traditional resources to meet the informational, instructional, educational, and recreational needs of the community; manages assigned library collections and programs for the Waco-McLennan County Library (WPL). Essential Functions Provides professional assistance to patrons, helping them identify, locate, access, and use information resources effectively. Delivers reference, research, and readers' advisory services. Develops, coordinates, and promotes programs, training sessions, and outreach initiatives, including partnerships with schools, community groups, and special events. Manages library collections across print, media, and digital formats by evaluating, selecting, and weeding materials to ensure accuracy, relevance, and community alignment. Creates instructional and promotional materials, including bibliographies, research guides, and displays. Collects and analyzes data to support reports on library operations and activities. Assists in training and supporting staff and volunteers. Maintains a safe and welcoming environment and ensures patrons comply with library policies. Oversee branch operations in the absence of the Branch Manager and provide cross-departmental support as needed. Ensure accuracy and accessibility of catalog and database records and provide basic circulation services when required. May occasionally travel to various City facilities as needed to attend meetings, coordinate with teams, and support ongoing initiatives.
