This position may plan and lead programs and events and may select materials for the library collection and manage an assigned collection area. This position reports to a Librarian
Assist in the development of procedures and policies in the library. May facilitate library teams and coordinate and plan projects and priorities for teams.
May direct work activities and tasks of other staff in lower classifications.
Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Perform all functions assigned to lower classifications.
Find and present information from library collections, databases, and other resources. Evaluate information and discern credible news and information from disinformation; and to instruct customers on how to do so.
Use and provide assistance with a wide range of library applications and personal reading devices that support library applications.
Understand new and emerging technologies and be able to instruct others how to use new and emerging technologies.
Support and uphold the principles of intellectual freedom.
Communicate effectively with diverse audiences and through multiple communication channels.
Create reports and make data-driven decisions about programs, collections, and services.
Manage time and manage multiple projects, prioritize, organize, collaborate, delegate, and work under stress.
Relate to others in a courteous and respectful manner.
Maintain a work environment free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
Work safely and in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and with City laws, policies, and standards.
Apply interpersonal skills using tact, patience, courtesy, and good judgment.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Washington State Driver License by date of hire.
JOB LIBRARIAN I DAY LABORER
$42.20-$51.30/per hour The City of Everett is currently accepting applications for a part-time Librarian I. This position requires work at both Evergreen Branch Library and the Main Library in Everett, WA. This temporary position will work 27 hours per week until 9/1/2026. It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon the employee's request at the completion of employment. These positions are not provided with City of Everett benefits.NATURE OF WORK
This is professional level library work responsible for serving customers' needs by providing information, reference, reader's advisory, instructional, and programming services. The librarian may deliver library service in person, over the phone, and by email.This position may plan and lead programs and events and may select materials for the library collection and manage an assigned collection area. This position reports to a Librarian
III.ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Conduct reference interviews with patrons of all ages and provide answers to reference questions of various levels of sophistication using appropriate resources, such as print materials, electronic databases, and online content.
- Assist patrons of all ages and backgrounds, including patrons with disabilities, in the location and use of library collections, print, digital, and microform, placing holds, and requesting interlibrary loans.
- Provide technology instruction and assistance to customers, including library computers, scanners, printers, photocopies, microform printers, and customer-owned devices and e-readers.
- Provide reader's advisory assistance and services using print and online resources, create booklists and displays, prepare and present booktalks in schools and to other groups, lead book discussions.
- Plan, present, and market library programs and services for customers of all ages.
- Read journals, review new books and other media in area of responsibility; keep abreast of professional developments and current events. Attend conferences, classes, and workshops to continue professional development and education.
- May be responsible for collection development and management in specific areas, including budget monitoring, selection, and weeding using professional judgement, resources, and reports and data.
- Coordinate with staff in other library departments to plan programs, services, and marketing.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires an MLS from an ALA accredited institution AND certification by the Washington State Library Commission.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
May require possession of or willingness to obtain valid CPR/AED and First Aid Card.Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Washington State Driver License by date of hire.
