Job Summary:
The Student Assistant for Library Access Services assists patrons in finding library materials. Checks materials in/out including media equipment and processes returned materials. Shelves, organizes, and maintains the order of library materials. Performs hourly walkthroughs of the building, and provides excellent customer service to patrons in person and on the phone at Library service desks.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Current undergraduate student at The University of Alabama. Applicant must be proficient in the use of personal computers and MS Office software. Applicant must be able to stand for several hours, lift books, and push/pull book carts.
Skills and Knowledge:
Applicant must have good customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Applicant should possess the ability to operate and troubleshoot office equipment. Applicant must be able to manage time effectively and work independently as well as collaboratively with other student workers and staff. A strong desire to learn new skills and attention to detail in completing tasks is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous customer service experience and/or experience working in a library and additional computer skills are preferred. All majors will be considered.
Enrollment Requirements:
Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
