THE POSITION
Under general supervision of an elementary, middle, or K-8 administrator, performs clerical functions relating to the acquisition, circulation, distribution, and recovery of library and reference books, instructional materials, and audiovisual materials.
CURRENT OPENINGS
: One 10 month/20 hours per week position and one 10 month/35 hours per week position. Salary placement will be on Range 12 on the CSEA Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at Step 1 ($19.80 per hour) of this salary range.
APPLICANT FILING INFORMATION
: This recruitment is open to the public. An eligibility list will be established to fill vacancies for full time, part time, evening, summer, and substitute positions throughout the duration of the eligibility list. Eligibility lists typically last for twelve months. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Pursuant to PC Rule 6.2.10, the eligibility list established for this recruitment may be used for another related classification at the same or lower salary.
NOTE :
Answers to supplemental questions must be submitted with your application. Circulates books, instructional materials, audio visual materials and equipment. Maintains both physical and electronic media center records and files. Sorts books, instructional materials, and audiovisual materials according to classification codes and returns them to shelves, files, and other storage areas. Reviews records and generates reports of overdue books, instructional materials, and audiovisual materials borrowed from the school media center. Works with teachers to develop schedules for class visits to the library or media center. Assists students and teachers in locating library material. Maintains an atmosphere for learning. Supervises student or volunteer assistants. Gives book talks and reads to students. Arranges book displays and bulletin boards. Examines and repairs damaged books, instructional materials, and audiovisual materials.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
May order books and supplies. May teach and enforce library rules. May teach library skills. May assist with book fairs. Performs other related duties as directed.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS AMONG RELATED CLASSES A
Media Center Aide performs clerical duties in an elementary, middle or K-8 school media center related to the circulation, distribution and recovery of library books and other materials; processes and shelves library materials and assists students and faculty in locating library/media materials. A Media Center Clerk performs technical library media services in a high school media center related to the circulation, distribution and recovery of library books and other materials; processes and shelves library materials and assists students and faculty in the selection of library/media materials and has a greater scope of responsibility than a Media Center Aide.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employees in this classification stand, walk, sit, lift and carry up to 25 lbs., have balance, stoop/bend, repetitively use fingers, use both hands simultaneously, speak clearly, hear well, have depth perception, color vision, distinguish shades, and see small details clearly.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification work inside exclusively and without direct supervision, and have direct contact with students and with the public.
Education :
No education required.
Experience :
Six months of clerical experience.
Special:
Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.
Knowledge of:
Methods, practices, and equipment pertinent to school libraries or media centers. Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Student behavior management strategies. Basic computer operation.
Ability to:
Perform clerical work of average difficulty. Perform arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy. Monitor and control student behavior. Maintain a variety of records and resource files. Learn related computer applications. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
