- 2:00pm Start Date Wednesday, August 19, 2026 Job Summary Job Summary The person in this position works under general direction of the principal, to manage the daily operation of an elementary school library.
Primary responsibilities are to:
- Prepare the library for use at the beginning of the school year by arranging books and furniture.
- Prepare and conduct book talks and story hours.
- Operate a computer using library circulation software, input new student data, maintain files, perform backups, recommend software upgrades as appropriate.
- Confer with principal and staff to establish library use schedules.
- Instruct student, either informally and/or by developing structured library skill lessons in subjects such as the use and care of library materials, card catalogs, organization and rules of the library, the Dewey Decimal System and circulation procedures.
- Confer with teachers in the selection of library and instructional media materials to support and supplement classroom instructional programs.
- Maintain card catalogs and shelf lists.
- Receive, process, and distribute books/textbooks and related instructional materials;
- May contact outside funding sources for the acquisition of library books and other instructional media materials.
