Job Description

Pitkin County Library is seeking a Seasonal Computer Specialist to join our team from May through November. This full-time position is scheduled for 40 hours per week and may include evenings and weekends. The Seasonal Computer Specialist supports the Circulation Department and requires prior library experience, strong knowledge of circulation functions, familiarity with the integrated library system, and the ability to assist both staff and patrons with a broad range of library technology. Provides computer support and performs technical and administrative duties using knowledge of Library policies and procedures. Trains staff members and customers in the use of hardware and software and assists with troubleshooting system errors. Works with specialized purchasing and cataloging databases under supervision; assists technical services librarians with the cataloging and classification of print, electronic, and digital media resources. Plans, coordinates, and implements Library computer system maintenance, replacements, and enhancements with supervision. Compiles data as assigned; uses specialized technical knowledge to run, export, and format reports through the Integrated Library System (ILS) to use in coordination with the Digital Library Assistant (DLA) to track inventory, circulation history, and accurate records management. Assists with the development of Library web pages, newsletters, public relations campaigns, graphic design, and social media services; promotes community awareness of the Library and its services and establishes effective relationships with community groups, organizations, schools, and individuals. Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Up to 1 year of library experience. Bachelor's degree preferred. Familiarity with technical services and circulation systems such as Pika, Sierra ILS, and OCLC required; OR training in web marketing technology such as Drupal 8 or higher, Canva Graphic Design or similar, Constant Contact email marketing or similar, and social media marketing systems required. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
Knowledge Of:
County policies and procedures. State and federal laws and regulations governing work performed. Record keeping and records management rules and standards.
Skill In:
Application of governing rules and regulations. Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, under pressure, and in emergency and stressful situations. Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds. Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and other regional agencies. Utilizing standard personal computer software programs and specialized State and County software. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Work is performed in a standard office environment.
