Moving Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Library Aide performs general circulation functions; directs public to appropriate staff; shelves materials and maintains the physical order of the collection.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent, or junior/senior depending on maturity. Demonstrated communication skills - both oral and written - and a proven commitment to excellent customer service. Ability to alphabetize, use the Dewey decimal system and simple math. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, to learn quickly and work independently.
Responsibilities:
Handles returned library materials and prepares them for shelving. Directs public to appropriate staff. Shelves and shelf-reads all types of materials.
Maintains room order:
straightens shelves, picks up materials, alerts staff to any inappropriate behavior, or unsafe situations. Physical Requirements The work requires regular bending, stretching, stooping, pushing and pulling; lifting print and other materials, office equipment and supplies of up to 25 pounds and the ability to move a reasonable quantity of materials from place to place within or outside the Library. May require standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods of time.
