Job Description

Plans, directs, and oversees the daily operations of the Library System. Interprets and applies County and Library policies for staff and the public; formulates Library policies and requests approval from the Division Director; evaluates procedures and policies. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Applies for state assistance, e-rate funds, and library grants. Evaluates and negotiates database licenses; evaluates, negotiates, and purchases services and equipment. Collects, interprets, and summarizes library use statistics; makes decisions based on statistical information; completes usage reports. Monitor personnel, operating and capital budgets; prepares cost estimates for budget preparation. Plans furnishings for new construction, including data wiring and phone systems. Updates long-range plan. Authorizes payments from Friends of the Library budget. Attends LAB & Friends meetings, providing information as requested; speaks at programs for civic groups.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
May serve as representative to the Southwest Florida Library Network (SWFLN); attends SWFLN Board and committee meetings; attends continuing education programs; provides information to and attends meetings. Replies to verbal and written customer complaints. Monitor cleanliness of buildings; monitors alarms. Repair computer and automation system problems. Performs other related duties as required. Master's degree in library science required. No equivalency will be accepted. Five (5) years of related experience. Fingerprinting required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a county vehicle as provided in
CMA 5805.
Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County's Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
