Job Description
The purpose of this position is to support in-library services and community outreach efforts. This position involves staffing the circulation desk, assisting patrons with library services and operating the library's mobile outreach unit to extend literacy and educational programs to the community.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Process all library circulation transactions (includes checking in and out of all materials, placingitems on hold, registering new patrons).Answers the telephone, provides information and assistance; collects fines and fees; obtains booksand materials from other libraries to fill patron requests.
Ensures equipment used by the public is in good working order; demonstrates proper use of suchequipment; performs routine maintenance, e.g., loading paper and changing toner cartridges.
Sorts and returns materials to stacks, re-shelves, and files.
Notifies patrons of overdue or reserve library materials; processes and covers new materials.
Strives to resolve patron problems and concerns relating to late fees or unreturned materials.
Checks in magazines, newspapers and other mail, routing to appropriate locations.
Assists with special events.
Operate and maintain the library's mobile outreach vehicle.
Deliver books and library services to schools, senior centers, and community events.
Promote literacy through reading sessions, book giveaways, and educational outreach.
Build relationships with local organizations to expand community engagement.
Track and report program participation, feedback, and inventory.
Ensure safe operation and upkeep of the mobile library unit.
Performs related work as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum one (1) year of customer service or library experience or an equivalent combination ofeducation, training and experience.
