Job Description

Description Under direct supervision, assists patrons with the use of the library's databases, locating materials, and checking materials in and out in a courteous manner; assists with maintaining the overall appearance of the library by returning materials to their correct locations; assists with special projects; and performs other routine office functions within the library. Examples of Duties A. Greets and assists patrons in using the library's databases, looking up and locating materials. B. Answers phones and assists callers. C. Checks materials in and out. D. Files materials neatly to their correct locations and in call number order. Other Responsibilities A. Performs other duties as assigned. B. Assists other library staff with projects as needed. C. Responds to the functions of the position in an environmental setting which might include cold, heat, odor, dampness, dirt, fumes, dust, oil, grease, noise, or vibration on a frequent basis. Appropriate protective devices are available as required. Minimum Qualifications A. High school diploma or equivalent, required. B. Good typing and computer skills using MS Office products required. C. Must be able to alphabetize and file accurately using the Library of Congress call numbers. D. Must be able to interact and communicate with others in a professional manner. E. Must be able to work well with the public and fellow employees. F. Must be able to follow directions and learn quickly. G. Must be a current student at Kankakee Community College enrolled in six or more credit hours during fall or spring semesters. For summer employment, student must be enrolled in three or more credit hours in the summer term and/or six or more credit hours during fall semester. H. Student is required to read and agree to the KCC Student Employment Agreement. I. Federal Work-Study students should also read and agree to the program rules and regulations. J. Work schedule and hours may vary and are determined by each department's need. Maximum of 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Maximum of 29 hours when classes are not in session or during the summer. K. Qualified candidate must be functionally literate in reading, writing, and computation skills as well as computer literate or willing to learn.
Supplemental Information Rate of pay:
$15.00 per hour eff 1/1/25.
