Job Description
Job Summary The Library Assistant provides service for Library & Tutoring Services Information Desk functions, monitors the learning environment, maintains order and security of the collection, assists with interlibrary loan services, supports academic success promotions and events, and provides clerical support. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Communicate clearly and professionally in English in both verbal and written formats, tailored to diverse audiences and contexts. Commitment to equity and success of traditionally underserved populations. Computer and software application skills, especially Microsoft Office, and working knowledge of office equipment such as copiers and scanners. Comfortable learning new technologies. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Attention to detail and timely completion of tasks. Required Qualifications Associate's degree or equivalent credit hours (60+) 1-3 years experience in customer service Experience working or volunteering in a library Demonstrated ability to build positive, respectful, collaborative relationships in a civil and inclusive environment Preferred Qualifications Experience working in higher education Physical Demands Work is normally performed in a general office environment. Work performed requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs. This position requires light physical activity and movement; employee must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone or during virtual meetings. Must possess the ability to sit for extended periods and to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds with the use of proper equipment. Monitor and maintain appropriate learning environment. Shelve library books and materials. Participate in shelf-reading and inventory. Process new or discarded materials. Perform interlibrary loan duties. Assist with promotional activities and events. Support workshops, trainings, and meetings for Library & Tutoring Services.
