This position offers progressive, hands-on experience in reference services, basic and intermediate systems maintenance, and supervision of student workers, and is intentionally structured to scaffold the growth of individuals who may be new to academic librarianship, providing supported opportunities to develop mastery in core academic library tools and services. Basic functions include facilitating access to Centenary College's JF Magale Memorial Library for students, faculty, and staff members, with shared responsibility for evening student worker supervision in consultation with librarians. This position is vital to daily library operations with a strong emphasis on customer service and data collection. This is a full-time, 12-month appointment within the division of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Library Director. Primary duties The Library Access Assistant Facilitates access to Magale Library and its resources for Centenary students, faculty, and staff. Serves as primary library officer during hours when librarians are not present. Provides coverage of the front desk and performs other library tasks when needed. In coordination with librarians, develops and oversees special projects for student workers. Plans, schedules, monitors, student worker related jobs when librarians are not present. Undergoes training in managing an integrated library services platform, reference work, information literacy instruction, and website management. Collaboratively trains and supervises student workers in basic library functions. Troubleshoots ILS problems with patron check outs or record data problems. Troubleshoots photocopiers, microform machines and vending machines. Aids in the search for lost books, processing and distribution of gift books and book repairs. In addition, the Library Access Assistant will collect, update, and analyze library usage statistics in consultation with the director, and may perform other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in any discipline Interest in and understanding of the value of libraries Good organizational skills Self-motivated work ethic Good communication skills (verbal and written) Flexibility and ability to work well in a collaborative team environment Preferred Qualifications Work experience at a selective, private, residential, liberal arts college.
