Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE
The Library Circulation Technician plays a vital role in advancing the Town's mission to deliver exceptional, accessible, and community-centered public services. As a front-line ambassador of the library, this position helps create a welcoming and inclusive environment where every patron feels valued, supported, and connected to the resources they need. Through thoughtful, courteous service and careful attention to detail, this role ensures seamless access to materials, technology, and information while maintaining the integrity and organization of the library's collections and systems. The position contributes to a positive and consistent patron experience by upholding high standards of service, accountability, and teamwork, reinforcing the library's role as a trusted and essential community resource.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(The functions or duties listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Serves library patrons by working the front desk and checking books in and out of the library; explains library policies and procedures; shelves materials, straightens and organizes stacks; keeps track of overdue books; processes notices; assists with reference questions. Answers the telephone and responds to questions; calls patrons to notify them of the availability of reserved materials; assists patrons with online catalog and public computers; assists patrons using the copier and microfilm reader. Enters data on materials into CWMARS and the office library computer; maintains and updates the library database; searches databases for requested information; keeps statistics. Maintains periodical back issue collection; keeps newspapers in order and current; ensures that audio tapes and DVDs are complete and operational when returned. Processes books and materials to make them circulation-ready. Performs similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma; some library experience desirable; experience working with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of library policies and procedures; familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System and library cataloguing. Ability to interact tactfully and appropriately with library patrons; ability to learn computer operations and related library databases; ability to operate library equipment. Interpersonal skills; computer skills; organizational skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimal physical effort is required to perform most duties; some duties require moderate effort. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, speak, hear, operate equipment, stoop, reach for and lift books and furniture weighing up to 30 pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to read and analyze documents and use a computer. Pay:
