Acquisitions & Copy Cataloging Assistant Salary $40,287.00 Annually Location CPLA-Library-Central Job Type Full Time Job Number 04367 Department Library Opening Date 07/21/2026 Closing Date 8/4/2026 12:50 PM Eastern Description Benefits Questions Position Purpose/Summary Responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of library materials, including ordering, receiving, processing, copy cataloging, distributing, and withdrawing for all Springfield library locations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Collection Development Manager and the Technical Services Supervisor who review work through observation, reports, and conferences.
No supervision is exercised over other employees. Essential Functions Unpacks and receives items in the Integrated Library System (ILS). Sorts daily shipments in preparation for cataloging and processing. Assists with inventorying shipments from vendors. Identifies and reports issues related to damaged items, incorrect shipments, incomplete orders, or vendor discrepancies to Collection Development Manager or Technical Services Supervisor. Performs copy cataloging following established bibliographic standards and local procedures of assigned materials, which may include books, serials, audiovisual media, digital/non-print formats, realia, and non-English materials. Identifies and reports errors or inconsistencies in local and national database records to Collection Development Manager or Technical Services Supervisor. Corrects item record problems as needed. Refers unusual or complex item records and problems in bibliographic records to the Collection Development Manager or Technical Services Supervisor. Maintains accurate cataloging statistics and workflow documentation. Assists with special projects within the Technical Services department. May assist with preparation of materials including labeling, stamping, and distribution to libraries. May assist with ordering and tracking materials within the integrated library system (ILS) or on vendor websites. Supports department members with acquisitions, cataloging, and processing tasks to maintain efficient workflow. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiarity with MARC records, bibliographic data, and copy cataloging practices. Familiarity with using the Integrated Library System (ILS). Knowledge of public library operations, policies, and services. Strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills. Ability to follow oral and written instructions with accuracy. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable working with library-specific software, databases, and integrated library systems. Proficiency in basic computer applications, including email, Microsoft Office, and shared files for document creation, communication, and file management. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. One to three years of library experience, including ILS maintenance
