DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Library Assistant is responsible for assisting patrons with checking out and receiving library materials using the Library's computerized circulation system; locating books and other materials for patrons of all ages; registering patrons for library cards, assisting patrons in using the library's public computers and all electronic resources; help answering questions using the Internet, online databases, and/or other sources; making minor repairs to books and other library materials; locating and routing library materials as requested by other branches; sorting and shelving books as needed; may occasionally assist with senior, adult and youth programs; other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma. Provides services at the circulation/information desk for children, teens, and adults, including readers' advisory, reference questions and general information. Provides excellent customer service by being friendly and welcoming to library patrons. Take patrons to locate needed materials or services when appropriate. Checks materials in and out using library's computerized circulation system, and process hold requests. Sets up cash drawer at the opening, collects, counts, and records amounts of daily fines and fees collected. Greets those who have come to the branch and directs them to various locations within the library, answers the phone, registers new patrons on library computer system; uses computer terminal to provide information to the public or explains how to use the library's computer system; instructs patrons on how to use the Internet including setting up email accounts, applying for online jobs, setting up popular social media accounts, and using Microsoft and Google products Plans and implements programs for adults. Receives and resolves complaints from patrons or refers them to a supervisor. Suggests appropriate reading materials for adults, teens, and children as requested May perform limited technical services tasks including labeling, re-jacketing, and mending. Maintains library public area in clean and orderly fashion by maintaining displays, cleaning computer terminals, and other general cleaning and/or organizing tasks. Stocks library shelves with books and reading materials. Assists with special projects as assigned. Ability to lift 30-40 pound filled book bins and setup tables and move chairs for library programs. Must be able to work evenings and weekends. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Performs other duties as assigned or required
