EXTERNAL POSTING General Statement:
Looking for an energetic and outgoing person to join the Community Engagement Department and work with the Head of Community Engagement to coordinate outreach activities with community organizations in and around Albany to inform people about library services and programs. Assists with volunteer, intern, and workforce recruitment efforts as presented in the APL Strategic Plan. Library employees may be assigned other duties in addition to direct public service.
Job Duties:
Performs outreach at schools, community agencies and events. Promotes use of library materials and services Maintains volunteer and intern records Planning and conducting programs under the supervision of higher-level staff in the department Providing instruction to the public in the use of library resources and other tasks of a similar nature Possesses excellent computer skills including creation of spreadsheets, to aid in tracking volunteers and interns Prepares presentations to orient and educate volunteers and interns to APL services and procedures Assist in the planning and implementation of training and outreach both on site and in the community Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to perform both independently and as a team member Aptitude for planning and conducting programming Demonstrates the ability to act with tact and courtesy while interacting with the community and staff. Possess energetic approach to outreach at community organizations Demonstrates enthusiasm and courtesy in communication with public and staff Possess basic computer skills Working knowledge of general library operations Familiarity with current book trends, library technologies, popular culture, and community information resources Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions Flexibility in work schedule
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's Degree; OR B. At least 60 credit hours of college coursework. C. Internal candidates must be reachable on the Library Assistant canvas list or already appointed in the classification to apply.
Work Schedule:
A combination of day, evening, and weekend hours up to 28 hours per week is required. Scheduled hours will include some weekends and weeknights due to the nature of community events and meetings. This position may include spending a good part of the day out of the office and driving and lifting/transporting materials.
