Library Media SpecialistQualifications:
Credentials, as required by the State of Oklahoma Reports to: Site Principal and/or Assistant PrincipalPerformance Responsibilities:
- Operates and supervises the library to which assigned.
- Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new library materials.
- Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and makes library materials available to supplement the instructional program.
- Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires.
- Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.
- Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
- Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
- Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
- Plans cooperatively with classroom teachers for the presentation and discussion of information skills developed through the content areas.
- Arranges frequently-changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the library's patrons.
- Prepares and administers the library budget.
- Supervises library assistants/aides in the performance of their duties.
- Supervises the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the library.
- Supervises students in the use of and training for technological resources.
- Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Terms of Employment:
Number of calendar days and compensation based on approved certified schedule and employee work calendarsEvaluation:
Evaluation by site principal and/or assistant principal in accordance with BOE Policy DNA Teacher EvaluationPhysical Demands:
- Ability to routinely and continually bend, squat, stand, walk, or climb stairs.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather.
- Ability to support and stabilize students with physical disabilities.
