Job Description

Part Time Library Clerk 10-15 hrs per week, $11.00 per hour (long-term position) Hours typically occur between the library's regular open hours of 12:00pm-7pm M, T, Th, 10:00am-5:00pm Wed, 12:00pm-5:00pm Fri, and 12:00pm-4:00pm Sat. Candidates must be able to work at least two Saturdays per month
Essential Functions:
assists Library Manager, System Administrator, or System Coordinator as required assists patrons at circulation desk and over telephone, including: answers general inquiries and routes specialized inquiries to appropriate personnel uses the required electronic systems to check materials in and out and renew materials, place holds, register borrowers, process overdue and other notices, and perform other duties as required collects fees and fines (must be able to make change) explains policies and procedures to patrons (requires ability to read and understand written policies and procedures, and hear and understand policies and procedures as explained orally) assists patrons in basic computer and printer usage (i.e., basic word processing, e-mailing, internet usage) sorts and shelves books and other materials as needed, including by alphabetical or alphanumeric order as required, may include lifting objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds in weight in order to place some on shelves of up to ten (10) feet in height and remove objects from shelves of same height, using a step stool or ladder as needed helps to maintain a safe and secure library environment through monitoring patrons' adherence to library procedures and guidelines and maintaining an awareness of all persons within the facility; To the extent known, reports potential or existing workplace health threats or safety issues to the System Administrator, System Coordinator, Library Manager, or designee. attends trainings (in person and on-line, including travel when needed) when required or permitted by Library Manager assists in general library housekeeping/cleaning tasks when necessary other duties as required by the Library Manager or his/her designee
Position Requirements:
Must have reliable transportation and be available to cover for call-offs Must be able to communicate clearly with coworkers and customers Must be able to think and act quickly in accordance with library expectations under pressure Must be able to read, follow, and give complex written instructions Must be able to listen to, follow, and give complex verbal instructions Works well in a team setting. Good teamwork skills include but are not limited to: Must be able to work with limited direct supervision Must be willing to assist and support coworkers, contribute ideas, problem solve, maintain flexibility, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Must have general computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & internet browsers and be able to learn and use specific electronic programs as designated by Library Manager or designee Must have a passion for providing top notch customer service and enjoy working with people of all ages Ability to help with the planning and presentation of children's, teen, and/or adult library programs a plus.
