Location:
Rapid City, SD Job Summary:
The Library Technician provides front-line patron support and ensures the smooth transfer of library materials between patrons and all locations. This role is responsible for circulation tasks, including checking materials in and out, re-shelving items, and processing new and withdrawn materials with accuracy and care. The position also maintains organized records, operates standard office and library equipment, and contributes to a collaborative work environment by supporting staff and volunteers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide effective customer service to library patrons. Checks materials in and out, repairs items if needed, and accurately re-shelves materials. Prepares and processes incoming materials. Withdraws holdings; and maintains records and files. Operates standard office and library equipment. Assists with orienting pages, volunteers and other staff as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older. Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college preferred. Five or more years related experience in a public library setting preferred.
Work Environment:
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work schedule is based on needs for library services, over 7 days per week, daytime and evenings at any of the library facilities. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
