Job Description
The Youth Services Assistant is an important part of the team that focuses on the services to families primarily with children under the age of 12. This role assists other team members in assuring our Family Place Library is safe and clean, offers fun and engaging activities and conduct programs and storytimes when needed. Also, this position will assist with year-round library events, both planned and passive programming. This person will help to ensure that all families who visit our library, particularly the youth services area will receive premier customer service. They will accomplish this by helping them find books and resources, as well as by engaging with patrons of all ages and meeting their needs. This position will assist in outreach programming and community events as well. Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner. Maintains the appearance of the Library, answers patron's reference questions and assists in the location of reference material and the use of the library equipment. Trains volunteers in procedures for children's area, schedules work and helps to oversee volunteers. Plans and conducts Early childhood, in-between (ages 5-12), as well as parenting programs with the Youth Services Supervisor and other team members. Assists in organizing and maintaining youth services shelving by cleaning, picking up manipulatives in the Family Place Area, the Comfort Room, as well as the Storytelling Room and other spaces as needed. . Assists with year-round children's programming including Summer Reading Program, story times and special events. Setting up for programs, crafts, art programming, and other Youth Services Programs inside and outside. Will also be assisting with Nature Explore events outside of the library building. Provides computer assistance with children and youth and manages children's computer areas. Establishes contact with schools, community groups and home school organizations. Records monthly statistics and maintains records. Occasionally designs and produces flyers, posters, brochures and other marketing and promotional items for children's programs and resources. Helps patrons with online Summer Reading app: Beanstack. Regular attendance required. Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Two years working with children under the age of 8, customer service experience is a plus. Experience with Microsoft and Windows Programs is required. Preference may be given to candidates that are bilingual in English/Spanish.
