ABOUT A Student Assistant (SA) at TJC plays an important role in promoting the mission of the department/office and college. The SA is required to perform various clerical tasks that aide in maintaining an organized workflow of the department/office. This is a part-time position and can work up to 18 hours per week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Primary Responsibilities Provides coverage of the front desk and phones and greets all callers and visitors in a courteous, polite and professional manner Answers basic questions and/or refers callers or visitors to the appropriate point of contact or resource Takes accurate messages as needed Responds to work-related emails and may assist with replying to department email accounts, if assigned by the supervisor Coordinates the reception/desk area and maintains orderliness of all associated spaces Opens and distributes mail to the appropriate employees Assists with outgoing mail (folds letters and envelopes, prepares labels, etc.) Performs hand-deliveries to other campus offices Assists with basic office administration and other work as needed: this may include maintaining spreadsheets; preparing reports; coordinating/gathering data; filing, copying or scanning documents, etc. Keeps file rooms and supply rooms organized Department/Office Specific Responsibilities Assists with performance, rehearsal, and event set-up and tear-down, including chairs, stands, percussion equipment, audio/recording equipment, recruitment materials, and room/stage requirements. Assists with publicity, recruitment, audition days, campus visits, and other band program events as assigned. Assists band faculty with prioritized music copying, sorting, labeling, filing, and distribution. Supports music librarian responsibilities, including preparing folders, organizing parts, maintaining accurate ensemble music files, collecting music after concerts, and helping keep the band music library organized and functional. Assists with marching band uniform operations, including sorting, organizing, assigning, distributing, collecting, and storing uniforms, garment bags, shakos, plumes, gloves, and related uniform items. Helps maintain rehearsal spaces, storage rooms, music library areas, uniform storage areas, and equipment rooms by keeping them clean, organized, and ready for daily use. Provides general clerical and operational support for the band program, including errands, inventory checks, basic data entry, labeling, filing, and other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Direct Supervision Work Environment :
Indoor office setting with some work may be required outside of normal business hours.
Physical Demands:
Sitting, walking, standing, bending, prolonged communication, and regular stair climbing. Lifting 5-20 lbs, and pushing 10-50 lbs.
Travel Required:
Yes - 10% (Pick up supplies around Tyler, shopping at Sams/Walmart, instrument store (Tatum) etc.) If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
WHO YOU ARE QUALIFICATIONS
Students must be registered for undergraduate classes and maintain enrollment status to work in these positions. Students may qualify for Federal Work Study, which will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Additional Job Specific Requirements Students are allowed to work a maximum of eighteen (18) hours per week and cannot work in multiple hourly positions. A work week is Monday-Sunday.
