Job Description
General Purpose The successful candidate for this position will provide library services to all ages. Duties include reference work, circulating materials, and other special projects. Functions and Duties Provides reference and reader's advisory services to library patrons in both English and Spanish. Orders and maintains Spanish language collection. Provides translations of marketing and other materials into Spanish. Plans and executes once a month evening Spanish storytime programs. Plans and executes quarterly large family events. Assists with English Learner Class. Creates and maintains displays to highlight book collections or services. Performs circulation tasks using library software, such as checking in materials, collecting fines, preparing library cards, and other duties as necessary. Assists patrons with the use of library technology such as printing and using self-check machines in both English and Spanish. Provides excellent customer service. Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
High school degree or equivalent required A four-year degree from an accredited college or university in the social sciences, humanities or a related field preferredExperience:
Some professional training in library work, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, OR current work on a Master's Degree in Library and Information Sciences. Skills/Abilities Fluency in Spanish required. Some knowledge of books preferred. Some knowledge of the principles and practices of public library function. Some knowledge of reference tools and procedures. Considerable knowledge of patron needs and the ability to provide what is needed. Strong oral and written communication ability. Some ability to develop and present public information materials to promote library use. Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, and the general public. Some knowledge of basic office software and general technology required. Working Conditions Working conditions may vary. No significantly hazardous conditions exist. Work is typically performed in an air-conditioned office. Must be able to bend and stoop and reach high places. Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work with all ages. Must be able to work in a noisy environment.DISCLAIMER
