Job Description

The Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library is seeking a full-time Technical Services Assistant. This position is responsible for acquisitions and copy cataloging across media types, with an emphasis on audio and video formats. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, be detail-oriented and organized, and have experience with both acquisitions and cataloging. This position reports to the Technical Services Librarian/Assistant Director and may be asked to assist at the Circulation desk when needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs copy cataloging and assigns collections codes and Dewey classification Makes adjustments to records in accordance with standard cataloging policies and procedures and library acquisitions and weeding procedures. Creates and receives orders with EDI and non-EDI vendors, verifies pricing and quality, and enters invoice details. Resolves shipping, item, and invoice problems with vendors and/or the Business Office. Processes materials for public use and places holds/reserves on ordered items. Helps to maintain an orderly and sufficient supply of needed office and processing materials. Other duties as assigned which may include temporary assignments in the Circulation department or other library departments. Occasional nights and weekends may be required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required:
High school degree with prior clerical experience.
Preferred/Optional:
Two or more years college/technical school with course work or equivalent training and experience in library technical services.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification System as well as library operations, services, and materials. Ability to work well and communicate effectively with the public, other staff and vendors. Ability to effectively use computer and computer software, manage computerized files, search databases and the internet.
