Library/Media Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Library Media Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specialization and grade levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2
REPORTS TO:
School Building Principal

Days SALARY:
Salary based on experience and education level per MCBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
EVALUATION
Performance in this position will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and Morgan County Board of Education Evaluation Policy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Operate and supervise the media center. 2. Evaluate, select, and requisition new media center materials. 3. Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and make media center materials available to supplement the instructional program. 4. Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the media center acquires. 5. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and instruct teachers and students on use of the system. 6. Arrange for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers. 7. Work with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources. 8. Promote appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities. 9. Help students develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments. 10. Present and discuss materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher. 11. Participate in curriculum team meetings. 12. Arrange frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center's patrons. 13. Prepare and administer the media center budget as directed by principal. 14. Weed obsolete and worn materials from the collections. 15. Perform the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the media center. 16. Use technology integration skills to improve instruction for both students and educators. 17. Use knowledge and skills to build effective consultative and co-teaching relationships with teachers to promote the integration of technology. 18. Utilize collaborative planning time to assist in integration of 21st century technology into the instructional units. 19. Be a resource to teachers on technology integration, as appropriate, in the implementation of information literacy, independent learning and social responsibility. 20. Communicate the importance of developing 21st century technology skills for all students to improve their academic achievement and post-secondary outcomes. 21. Maintain the School Technology Plan/chair school committee 22. Maintain contact with County Technology Coordinator concerning school technology issues/needs. 23. Maintain school technology inventory. 24. Manage the school's Acceptable Use Policy as directed by principal. 25. Ensure adequate expendable supplies such as paper, printer cartridges, toner cartridges, and diskettes are on hand throughout the school year.
