Job Description

Adjunct Math Teacher 825 7th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 $10,000 a year - Part-time, Contract $10,000 a year - Part-time, Contract Adjunct Math Teacher (2026-2027) Templeton Academy is an intentionally diverse, non-profit private school serving grades 6-12 in a newly renovated campus blocks from the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Families choose Templeton for its innovative model, small class sizes and welcoming environment. As an Adjunct Math Teacher you will implement our model by teaching select math classes using our tenets of Fieldwork and Project-Based Learning (PBL). Whether you are early in your career and building your craft, or an experienced educator who wants to keep teaching on a lighter schedule, this role is a supportive, low-commitment way to do meaningful classroom work with a phenomenally committed student body.
Dates and Timing:
Contract runs the full 2026-2027 school year, from the first day of school on Monday, August 24, 2026 through Friday, June 11, 2027. Our school calendar can be found at https://canva.link/tacalendar Each class meets on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, one hour per day, either 9:20-10:20 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. No Wednesday classes, and all teaching is in the morning. Each class consists of four instructional hours per week, plus prep, grading, and required meetings. Who Thrives in

Recent graduates who want real classroom experience with curriculum, coaching, and mentorship provided. Experienced teachers easing toward retirement who want to keep teaching without a full-time load. Anyone who can commit to a consistent, mornings-only, four-day schedule.
What We Provide:
Any previous curriculum and instructional materials, so you are not building from scratch. Mentorship and regular coaching from the Head of School and experienced faculty. Small class sizes and a welcoming, collaborative team.
A light footprint:
mornings only, no Wednesday teaching, with generous breaks built into the calendar.
What You Will Teach:
One or more math classes based on need and your strengths, such as:
Middle School Math Geometry Algebra I Precalculus Responsibilities:
Design and implement engaging lessons anchored in project-based and experiential learning. Previous instructional materials and curriculum provided. Use a variety of instructional resources to enrich learning and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students. Effectively utilize our learning management system (Alma and Google Classroom). Communicate clearly and promptly with faculty, staff, students, and parents, verbally and via email. Attend agreed-upon meetings on time and for the agreed-upon duration. Be responsive to requests from staff, students, and parents.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related subject area, Master's degree a plus. Comfort teaching math and managing multiple levels within the same class. Enthusiasm for working with a diverse student body. Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills. Proficiency in Google Workspace and common classroom tools (Google Classroom, Sheets, Docs, Canva).

Compensation:
$10,000 per course for the 2026-2027 school year (up to two courses per candidate)
Flexibility and Growth:
This role can expand to a full-time position for the 2027-2028 school year for those who want to grow, and works equally well as a steady, light-commitment role year over year.
Evaluation:
Periodic check-ins with the Head of School.

Pay:

Benefits:
Flexible schedule Application Question(s): Are you available to teach in person on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings between 9:20 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.?
