Our Primary Math Specialists are responsible for cultivating deep conceptual understanding through highly engaging, hands-on, inquiry-driven instruction that empowers learners to think critically, problem-solve confidently, and develop a lasting relationship with mathematics. We are seeking an exceptional educator who understands how children learn mathematics developmentally and can create rich learning experiences that move students from concrete understanding to abstract reasoning with confidence and clarity. Position Overview The Primary Math Specialist will design and facilitate high-quality mathematics instruction for elementary learners through personalized, mastery-based learning experiences. This role requires a strong understanding of mathematical progressions, conceptual development, and evidence-based instructional practices that support diverse learners. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in utilizing manipulatives, visual models, mathematical discourse, inquiry-based exploration, and real-world application to build deep mathematical comprehension. Key Responsibilities Facilitate engaging, hands-on mathematics instruction aligned to mastery-based learning goals Utilize the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) instructional framework to support conceptual understanding and mathematical transfer Implement high-quality math instruction through: Manipulatives Visual modeling Collaborative problem-solving Inquiry-based exploration Mathematical discussions Real-world application tasks Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners through personalized learning pathways Develop student confidence and mathematical reasoning through active engagement and guided discovery Foster a classroom culture where students explain thinking, justify reasoning, and persevere through challenges Use formative assessment and observation to identify misconceptions and guide instruction Collaborate with instructional leaders and educators to strengthen mathematics instruction across grade levels Integrate innovation, creativity, and interdisciplinary connections into mathematics experiences Required Knowledge & Expertise Mathematical Progression & Development Candidates must demonstrate: A strong horizontal understanding of mathematics learning within a grade level, including how mathematical domains connect and reinforce one another A strong vertical understanding of mathematics progression across grade levels, including prerequisite skills, conceptual development, and long-term learning trajectories Knowledge of how foundational numeracy develops into higher-level mathematical reasoning Instructional Expertise Candidates should possess: Deep understanding of the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) instructional approach Experience implementing high-quality mathematics instruction using: Hands-on manipulatives Visual representations Number sense routines Problem-based learning Inquiry-driven instruction Strong understanding of mathematical discourse and student-centered facilitation practices Ability to identify and address misconceptions through responsive teaching strategies Knowledge of evidence-based mathematics instructional practices and science-of-learning principles Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Education, Mathematics, Elementary Education, or related field Strong background in elementary mathematics instruction Experience working with diverse learners and differentiated instruction Demonstrated ability to create engaging, student-centered learning environments Passion for innovative, inquiry-based education Ideal Candidate Attributes We are looking for educators who are: Passionate about transforming mathematics education Highly engaging, energetic, and creative Skilled facilitators of inquiry and mathematical thinking Strong communicators and collaborative team members Reflective practitioners committed to continuous growth Able to inspire curiosity, confidence, and problem-solving in young learners Our Vision At Curious Innovators of America, mathematics is not taught as isolated procedures—it is explored as a meaningful system of reasoning, patterns, creativity, and discovery.
